Undulation show set up...

Undulation continued... photos: Maggie Marsek

More pics from the show space...

Undulation show a success

On Friday December 11th, 2009 the Undulation art show featuring the photos of Maggie Marsek and the paintings of Skye Walker went on display for one night only. We had about 200 people come out and buy 90% of our art and help raise some money for Pro Peninsula. It was an amazing evening and Maggie's photos brought a depth to the display that I couldn't have achieved on my own. Can't wait to work with her again!

Liquid Force Trip Board

I was hired by Liquid Force to design their 2010 "Trip" board which is their most
popular consumer wakeboard. It's finally out and I think it turned out pretty cool...

Ebb & Flow Fundraiser donation

The Ebb & Flow store here in Cardiff had a fundraiser on Saturday the 17th of October. Andy Davis donated art as well as a bunch of other artists and companies to raise money for the cancelled art programs in the local Cardiff schools. This was my piece called "Rising Tide" that I donated...

New Commission "Harmonize"

This is the sketch for a piece I'm doing for two great people in Leucadia, CA for their home.
This is going to be a triptic, 3 panels that are 3ft tall by 2.5ft wide. A big one- but it's gonna' look good in the end.

Glide

Just launched a limited T-shirt line with my friend Mark, simply called Glide. Check it out... a portion of the proceeds goes to Pro Peninsula. Pro Peninsula strengthens individual and community efforts to protect the natural environment throughout the Baja California Peninsula.

Halcyon process video

Finshed "Halcyon"

I finished this commissioned piece and I called it "Halcyon" which has a couple of meanings, but I liked this definition: calm; peaceful; tranquil:

But it's also
a mythical bird, usually identified with the kingfisher, said to breed about the time of the winter solstice in a nest floating on the sea, and to have the power of charming winds and waves into calmness. This fits pretty well with the piece as well...

New Koi Commission

A gentleman and his wife from central California came the Pod Room surf shop in Oceanside and bought a small piece of mine called "Given to Fly". They got in touch with me and asked me to do a custom piece for their home... here is the sketch for the piece I'm doing for them.

Me, You, Them, Us

This is a 4 piece block set from the show I did at The Pod Room in Oceanside last month. They sold really fast, which was super cool... and people wanted more... so I've built more blocks and it's back to the drawing board, er, table.

Wax

Just de-waxed my longboard, that's a lot of wax from a 10ft log. Fresh wax also smells great, had an amazing session on my log tonight at Swamis by myself with only a few people out...

Sketch

This is a piece that I'm doing that started as a sketch, it will be apart of a multi-framed installation that will be hung up at an upcoming art show...

Friends

Recently I had my best friends in town for their 30th, 31st & 32nd birthdays. Surf, eat, party, eat, sleep, surf, party, eat sleep. It was a great time... I'm stoked to have such awesome friends.

I recently designed four t-shirts for Pro Peninsula in San Diego. The proceeds from these shirts will help keep whales, turtles and other forms of wildlife in the Baja Peninsula safe and sound. Good folks and a good cause...

Just a thought...

Everyone and their dog is pretty stressed with the economy and losing their jobs and such. I'm trying to keep my head on straight and move forward because eventually, things will turn around... A lot of people are afraid and they let the fear of what might happen consume them. Have no fear, it's your worst enemy. Smile instead :-) you'll feel better.

Encinitas Banner

My banner was revealed along with 100 other banners in Encinitas, California by local artists. These banners will line HWY 101 for a couple months and then be auctioned off. This is a fun project and it's an honor to be presented along coast highway 101 with so many other talented artists... I named this banner "Premonition".

New Comission

My roommate Kyle connected a friend of his with me that wanted a custom painting for her bedroom, she envisioned a tree and left the rest to me. So, this is the first rough sketch of her piece, the final will be a bit different. There will be a female figure laying next to the tree though. It will have a much darker sky and the lighting will be very dramatic with hints of Maxfield Parish colors shining through... more to come on this piece, the final will be mixed media 3ft by 3.5ft on wood panel.

Starting Fresh

Well, I have become a statistic. I lost my job of 2 years on the 15th of this month due to a "reduction in force"... but that is ok. I am optimistic and am working hard to bring in a lot of projects. I'm ready to do as much freelance art, design and video work as possible. The economy is no bueno right now, and everyone is suffering from it. But, I think we all need to keep our chins up because if we listen to how bad it is and what the news tells us every day, it will be hard to turn things around. So, for me, it's onward and upward from here on out!

Saturday, January 3, 2009

Once again it is time to work with DEMA (Downtown Encinitas Mainstreet Association) and paint a banner along with about 100 other local artists. These banners will line HWY 101 for a couple of months. So here is the beginning of the 7ft tall banner.... more to come soon when it's done...
